Machen Lodge RL Meeting

The Visitors to Machen played a very important part in the proceedings indeed this month. Below we see our WM Steve handing over the Ron Field's Memorial "Visiting Baton" to W Bro Grayson from Lodge of Freedom No 3194. He and his team claimed it earlier that evening in the Lodge Room as was their right.

Earlier two visitors from North Star Lodge No 3927 London W Bro Vincent Fattorusso and his companion Bro Giuseppe Ciampa presented to our WM a couple of Breast Jewels. One was a Machen Lodge Centenery Jewel issued in 1978 on the lodge's 100th birthday, and now worn by all MMs in the lodge if they wish. The other was a Royal Masonic Benevolent Institute (RMBI) Stewards Festival Jewel from 1965. Both had once belonged to a departed member of the Lodge - Bro Cyril Billett.

Mass Machen Visit!

Today, the Machen members came out in force!

Our WM, Chaplain and Inner Guard went to visit St Martins Lodge No 4011, to witness the installation of their new WM. A wonderful evening, whichrewarded us not only with a marvellous ceremony, but also allowed out lodge to claim temporary ownership of the Ron Field Visiting Baton.

This DC's baton, sponsored by Athol Lodge No 74, travels from lodge to lodge, encouraging visiting and stimulating the forming of new friendships.

Consecration of the Iron Bridge Lodge

Our W.M. was privileged to be able to attend the consecration of The Iron Bridge Lodge No. 9897 today.   A rare event, it was charecterised by the usual flawless ceremony that befits the occassion. We wish     their new W.M. well, together with good will and prosperity to the lodge itself.

The following text is taken from the Order of Procedure published for the event:

On Building a Lodge.

An old man going a lone highway,
Came, at the evening cold and grey,
To a chasm, vast, deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twighlight dim,
The sullen stream had no fear for him;
But he turned when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.

To the "Old Man", said a fellow pilgrim near,
"You are wasting your strength when building here;
Your journey will end with the end of the day,
You never again will pass this way;
You've crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
Why build this bridge at evening tide?"

The builder lifted his old grey head;
"Good friend, in the path I have trod," he said,
"There followeth after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
He, too, must cross in the twighlight dim;
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!"

On the Saturday evening, the formal ladies evening commenced with a reception with the Worshipful Master and his lady Ann, followed by a six course banquet followed by dancing and entertainment into the small hours.

Machen Lodge - Sunday Ramble - 27th May 2012 - Welford on Avon

On 27th May 2012 our Machen Lodge rambling event became a reality as our smartly dressed team descended on the sleepy village of Welford on Avon in Warwickshire.
As luck would have it the sun made an appearance making the dare of sunglasses and shorts worthwhile for the brave.
A pleasant walk of only 3 miles, reasonably flat with no styles, strolling past on no less that two occassions the sparkling river avon, sandwiched between a wealth of timbered and thatched cottages with beautifully tendered gardens, making this walk a haven for chocolate box photographers and gardeners alike.
The walk had the benefit of being circular, beginning and finishing at the Bell Inn. The Inn is an outstanding 17th century eatery complete with exposed beams, flagstone floors, oak furniture and open fireplaces. To top the day we were fortunate enough to have our own room set aside just large enough for our hungry     (and thirsty) team.

All in all a wonderful day !!!!!.....well done Paul
